Summer 2026 Update

UCR Drupal sites hosted on Pantheon will be updated on the week of July 20, 2026 with the changes listed below. These fixes are applied to all themes, unless stated otherwise. This release focuses on strengthening our technical foundation and significantly elevating our commitment to digital accessibility.

List of Updates

Drupal Core updates and introducing new modules:

• Update to Drupal Core v10.6.12. To stay up to date with the latest Drupal security updates and core features.
• The Schema.org Metatag modules. Boosting SEO & AI Searchability for Academic Programs
  • Educationalprograms: Perfect for sites promoting courses or workshops. Check out our [Step-by-Step Setup Guide].
  • Organization: We’ve added sensible default values that automatically inject basic, foundational schema about your site out of the box. See screenshot below (note that this was taken from a test environment, URL will vary per site):

• Vertex AI-powered Image Alt text generator. Automate web accessibility compliance using Google Vertex AI to instantly generate meaningful image descriptions for screen-reader users. You can also generate image alt text in bulk too!

Bug fixes and Accessibility Enhancements

• Accessibility fix for Video Headers
  • Fixed Z index header issue
  • Updated to use aria-hidden="true"  instead of aria-labelledby
  • Fixed header hierarchy
• Accessibility fix for carousel and testimonial slider buttons
• Fixed missing alt text for article header images
• Events listing page - Removed identical links to events page, and corrected color contrast on date/time info
• Fixed link creation issue
• Fixed image upload issue
• Expanding Cards:
  • Fixed cut body when centered
  • Fixed Extra Padding/margin in body when CK5 Editor with Source is used.
• Fixed News Template issues:
  • Changed Follow us element into a <p> from <h2>
  • Headings not structured
  • Visible label and accessible name do not match - Added author's name to Email label under Media Contacts
  • Text is clipped when resized issue
  • Interactive element does not meet enhanced size
  • Brand colors - I'll set this up manually on the three sites.
  • favicon not showing up in Google Search Results.
